“Great fishing, great hosts!”

   Reviewed June 9, 2011

The service at the lodge was top notch. Great meals, and good company all around.
Pete and Connie and the staff are very helpful with any requests we may have had and the trip was more than enjoyable.

The cabins are very cozy and the beds are nice and comfy.

The lodge is located in a nice quiet area with just a short walk to the wharf. It has some beautiful wood carvings inside and out.

There are a couple of hot tubs for guests to use and we made full use of the one close to our cabin. Also, the lodge is very nice and comfy. A great place to watch the Canucks win one of their games! The store has a nice variety of merchandise, something to please everyone. The fish room offers the option to have your fish processed and frozen or fileted and packed on ice in your cooler when you head for home.

What we liked the best is the overall experience of open ocean fishing with a great guide...Mike took us out and did an excellent job of getting us on to fish and was good at explaining what to do and when to do it if we did get a fish on! He was busy busy keeping his eye on all our rods to be sure we did not miss a bite! He also made sure that the fish we hooked were brought into the boat with none getting off the hook!

What we liked the least was the early morning wake up time but it is necessary to get us fed and out onto the fishing grounds at a reasonable hour so we can't complain about that. We are back in early enough to catch fourty winks before the awesome appies and dinner that was fully enjoyed in the evenings.

“Top-notch, drive-in fishing and accommodations at Trailhead Resort”
Reviewed July 13, 2012

The waters off Port Renfrew to Swiftsure Bank on the west coast of Vancouver Island teem with salmon and bottomfish. And this great fishing is only a scenic three-hour drive from the BC Ferries terminal at Swartz Bay via Highway 14 West.

With its fleet of soft-riding, 10-metre Silver Streak cruisers, well-equipped with the most modern electronics for navigation, and radar, anglers from Trailhead Resort can reach distant, deep-ocean offshore waters in safety and comfort. The guides are experienced professionals who know how to catch fish; you'll come home with halibut, chinook and coho salmon, along with other species if they're around.

For each day of fishing, anglers receive a hot breakfast, an ample lunch on board, and a fabulous four-course gourmet supper (with an emphasis on fresh seafood) in the evening. We ate extremely well!

A really great part of any Trailhead Resort's fishing package is the extra night's accommodation after your last day of fishing; you won't need to tackle the twists and turns of the secondary highway after a long day on the water. Accommodations range from large, multi-room cabins for families to motel rooms. The rooms include kitchen facilities with stove and fridge – but why bother cooking? Hikers coming off the world-renowned West Coast Trail, as well as those visitors just driving through Port Renfrew are welcome too.

The resort provides fishing cleaning, filletting, vacuum packaging and blast-freezing for all anglers coming to Port Renfrew. It's a service well worth the small extra cost. Anglers driving to Port Renfrew should bring a BIG cooler, but the resort does have styrofoam coolers for sale.

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful day of fishing and two-night stay with Trailhead Resort. When we got home we had many packages of solidly frozen, meal-sized packages of salmon and halibut that only needed to be dropped into our freezer! Fabulous!

We went in July 2011 and the 4 of us limited out both days. The cabins are awesome and the food is terrific. Going again this year and there will be 12 of us, so we'll be taking along a lot of coolers to pack the fish in.
